Human beings are more connected than at any other point in history, so why don't we feel that way?
To explore how technology can actually help us connect, a few friends and I partnered with the Foundation for Social Connection to create Hey You — the world's smallest social network.
There are no likes, statuses, or followers on Hey You. It just helps you and one friend call each other once a week, for one month, and serves up a series of research-backed prompts designed to better your relationships along the way.
Check it out here (sadly, it only works in America right now).
The prompts were developed in collaboration with the foundation's panel of scientific advisors. Each one builds off the one that came before it, guiding people as they stretch their conversations to deepen their relationships.

The concept is simple and catchy, but making it happen took a hackathon, an unlikely, cross-continental friendship, and a snowshoeing trip to Utah with a professor from BYU. Oh, and teaching myself how to actually build a chatbot. Turns out that's pretty complex.
